Job Purpose
To monitor and safeguard South Africa’s national road infrastructure from the Central Operations Centre. The operator is responsible for continuous surveillance using SCADA and security systems, prompt incident response, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols, directly contributing to the safety of roadside teams and the public.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Duties:
- Monitor SCADA systems, CCTV, alarms, and all security equipment in real-time.
- Log, escalate, and respond to all incidents and alarms using SANRAL’s service management system.
- Conduct routine inspections and interpret maintenance needs for CCTV, generators, UPS, perimeter security, and access control systems.
- Manage site alarms and ensure contractor safety during after-hours work.
Reporting and Compliance:
- Maintain real-time operational dashboards and submit detailed maintenance reports.
- Support audits with accurate documentation and case histories.
- Compile risk assessments and assist in technical incident reviews.
- Ensure strict compliance with all SANRAL safety and operational protocols.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Certifications:
- Senior Certificate (Matric).
- PSIRA Certification – Grade B or A.
- SCADA Training Certification.
- At least 5 years of experience in a control room environment.
Technical Competencies:
- Proficient knowledge of SCADA GUI and alarm response.
- Understanding of UPS, generator operations, and industry regulations.
- Strong documentation skills for audit and reporting purposes.
Advantageous Experience:
- Working knowledge of AJAX monitoring systems.
- Familiarity with Gallagher Access Control systems.
- Understanding of roadside hazards and safety procedures.
- Physical fitness for rotating shifts and long hours.
