Job Purpose
To operate a tractor and associated implements efficiently and safely for soil cultivation, transportation, and other farm tasks. The driver ensures work is completed accurately and timeously, maintains equipment, keeps accurate records, and adheres to all safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Core Tractor Operations
- Work on a tractor with various implements such as bush cutters, slashers, and spraying machines.
- Ensure soil cultivation and other tasks are done accurately, timeously, and professionally.
- Safely transport farm produce, fertilizers, and equipment.
- Perform basic maintenance on the tractor and implements.
Administration & Compliance
- Maintain record keeping of daily work, diesel usage, and spraying programs.
- Comply with all requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
- Practice effective time management for individual and team tasks.
General Support
- Assist with general farm work as instructed by the line manager.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 10 certificate with at least 1-3 years’ experience as a tractor driver.
- Valid Code 10 (C1) driver’s licence.
- Good reading and writing skills for record-keeping.
- Must be willing to do a tractor driving competency test during the interview process.
Advantageous:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with tractor driving experience.
Skills and Attributes
- Proven, hands-on tractor driving and implement operation skills.
- Strong mechanical aptitude for basic maintenance.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in cultivation and record-keeping.
- Reliability, discipline, and a strong safety consciousness.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
