Job Purpose
To render a professional security service in full compliance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act (56 of 2001). The guard is responsible for protecting Dis-Chem’s assets, property, and staff by creating a safe environment, preventing loss, investigating disturbances, and adhering to all relevant legislation and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct random patrols of the premises to ensure visibility and deter criminal activity.
- Monitor and control access points for vehicles and pedestrians, verifying authorisation.
- Operate and monitor alarm systems, CCTV cameras, and other security equipment.
- Investigate and report signs of damage, theft, or unlawful entry promptly.
- Perform access control duties, including searching staff, suppliers, and vehicles.
- Maintain all security registers, occurrence books, and incident reports.
- Enforce opening and closing procedures, ensuring premises are secure.
- Respond quickly and correctly to emergencies, crises, and evacuations.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to all staff and visitors.
- Liaise with police and emergency services as required.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
- Grade C accreditation with PSIRA (registration is a special condition of employment).
- A general minimum of 3 years’ exposure in the retail industry (e.g., shopping malls, warehouses).
Advantageous Experience:
- At least 1 year of specific previous experience in a similar security guard role.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Must be PSIRA registered with Grade C accreditation.
- South African citizen.
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE checks will be conducted).
- Driver’s license and own reliable transport (PDP required if deployed as a driver).
Competencies
- Knowledge of PSIRA regulations and Fire/Health & Safety procedures.
- Proficiency in English (read, write, speak) – the organisation’s official language.
- Vigilance, alertness, and the ability to act decisively under pressure.
- Professionalism, integrity, and excellent customer service skills.
