Job Purpose
To perform essential maintenance, repair, programming, and safety compliance tasks on high-tech mining equipment and electrical/mechanical infrastructure. The Millwright ensures optimal plant performance, minimises downtime, and adheres to the highest safety standards, while also mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on plant infrastructure and equipment.
- Program, maintain, and troubleshoot circuits, control panels, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Safely manage and operate medium to high voltage switchgear.
- Ensure strict compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Mine Health and Safety Acts (MHSA).
- Plan and order parts to prevent production delays.
- Transfer knowledge and mentor artisan aides and trainees.
- Conduct risk assessments, use correct PPE, and inspect all tools and equipment.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with operators and document all work via job cards.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Certifications:
- Grade 12/Standard 10 Technical.
- N3: Engineering Relevant.
- Trade: Millwright MQA/QCTO (Red Seal).
- Valid Public Driver’s Licence: Code B.
- Competency in Medium Voltage Switching.
- Completion of Core MQA Modules and On-the-Job MQA Assessments.
- 2-3 years of applicable technical/maintenance experience in heavy industry, mining, or production.
- Must pass Exxaro’s Psychometric Assessment and obtain a Certificate of Fitness.

- Proficiency in programming circuits, panels, and PLCs.
