About the Role
A mechanic in the automotive industry, specialising in used cars, is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining pre-owned vehicles. The mechanic ensures that used cars meet safety and performance standards and prepares them for sale. This role requires knowledge of various automotive systems, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough inspections of used vehicles to assess condition and identify issues (engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, electrical systems, etc.).
- Utilise diagnostic tools and technical knowledge to troubleshoot and identify mechanical and electrical problems.
- Perform necessary repairs, maintenance, and replacement of parts and components to manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct test drives to evaluate vehicle performance and verify repair effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and complete all required service documentation.
- Ensure all repaired vehicles meet quality and safety standards for road use.
- Communicate effectively with relevant parties regarding repairs, recommendations, and timelines.
- Collaborate with team members, assist apprentice mechanics, and adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 12.
- Red Seal Qualification as a Mechanic (Highly Advantageous).
- Minimum of 2+ years working as a Mechanic, preferably with experience in a used car or fast-paced automotive environment.
Skills and Attributes
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with modern automotive diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of various vehicle makes and models.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
