Job Purpose
The main purpose of this learnership is to successfully complete a structured development programme to qualify as a Rigger Ropesman. The learner will gain the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills while adhering to the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental (SHE) protocols within a mining engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
As a Learnership candidate, your key performance areas will include:
Programme Completion & Development
- Demonstrate an understanding of the programme objectives and associated tasks.
- Complete all modules of the Rigger Ropesman development programme within the specified timeframe.
- Escalate queries and concerns associated with the programme where required.
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Compliance
- Adhere to all legal and safety requirements at all times.
- Conduct all work according to the required standards, specifications, and training.
- Attend SHE meetings as required.
- Ensure prescribed safety equipment is worn and/or used correctly.
- Participate in on-the-job risk assessments and recognize hazardous situations.
- Ensure strict adherence to all company policies and procedures.
Reporting & Communication
- Compile developmental progress reports for discussions with relevant stakeholders.
- Report all inconsistencies, obstacles, and safety concerns.
- Communicate ideas and recommendations effectively.
Stakeholder & Team Relations
- Ensure effective team relationships and provide support to team members.
- Build and maintain positive partnerships with all stakeholders within the business.
- Engage with stakeholders to gain necessary business context.
- Support and promote a positive, values-based work environment.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Option 1: N2 Certificate with Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawings, and Rigger Trade Theory.
- Option 2: National Certificate Vocational (NCV) in Engineering and Related Design with at least 40% for all subjects.
- Option 3: Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science, Drawings (Engineering Graphic Design), and relevant trade theory, with at least 40% for all subjects.
The Appointee must:
- Be medically fit to work in the specific business area.
- Have a clear security screening record.
Advantageous Qualifications
Candidates with the following will have an advantage:
- Relevant experience in an engineering or mining environment.
- A valid driver’s licence.
