Job Purpose
The main purpose of this learnership is to successfully complete a structured development programme to qualify as a Rigger Ropesman. The learner will gain the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills while adhering to the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental (SHE) protocols within a mining engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities
As a Learnership candidate, your key performance areas will include:

Programme Completion & Development

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the programme objectives and associated tasks.
  • Complete all modules of the Rigger Ropesman development programme within the specified timeframe.
  • Escalate queries and concerns associated with the programme where required.

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Compliance

  • Adhere to all legal and safety requirements at all times.
  • Conduct all work according to the required standards, specifications, and training.
  • Attend SHE meetings as required.
  • Ensure prescribed safety equipment is worn and/or used correctly.
  • Participate in on-the-job risk assessments and recognize hazardous situations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all company policies and procedures.

Reporting & Communication

  • Compile developmental progress reports for discussions with relevant stakeholders.
  • Report all inconsistencies, obstacles, and safety concerns.
  • Communicate ideas and recommendations effectively.

Stakeholder & Team Relations

  • Ensure effective team relationships and provide support to team members.
  • Build and maintain positive partnerships with all stakeholders within the business.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gain necessary business context.
  • Support and promote a positive, values-based work environment.

Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications:

  • Option 1: N2 Certificate with Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawings, and Rigger Trade Theory.
  • Option 2: National Certificate Vocational (NCV) in Engineering and Related Design with at least 40% for all subjects.
  • Option 3: Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science, Drawings (Engineering Graphic Design), and relevant trade theory, with at least 40% for all subjects.

The Appointee must:

  • Be medically fit to work in the specific business area.
  • Have a clear security screening record.

Advantageous Qualifications
Candidates with the following will have an advantage:

  • Relevant experience in an engineering or mining environment.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
