Job Purpose
To work within the Business Services and Advisory Department, taking responsibility for a portfolio of clients (individuals, trusts, companies, and CCs). The Junior Accountant will perform compilation and review engagements, handle full accounting functions, and ensure strict adherence to BDO’s standards and procedures while delivering high-quality service to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for a portfolio of clients, managing end-to-end engagements.
- Perform Compilation Engagements (ISRS 4410), Independent Review Engagements (ISRE 2400), and Accounting Officer Engagements for Close Corporations.
- Ensure proper planning is conducted before engagement execution and that all BDO Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed.
- Prepare, process, and maintain full accounting records for clients from source documents.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and prepare monthly management accounts.
- Prepare audit files and finalise annual financial statements.
- Propose journals to clients and communicate effectively regarding engagement arrangements and results.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- BCom Financial Accounting degree.
Technical Knowledge & Competencies:
- Working knowledge of the most commonly used accounting software packages (for reporting and processing).
- Detailed knowledge of Caseware Working Papers is essential.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, for internal and external client interaction.
- Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to work accurately under pressure.

- Exposure to a professional services/accounting firm environment during studies or via internship.
