Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to assist the Fitters and Maintenance Manager with daily mechanical maintenance activities. The General Worker ensures that all equipment, facilities, and workspaces remain safe, functional, and fit for purpose, supporting the smooth operation of the manufacturing plant.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform general maintenance tasks such as spray-painting, basic welding repairs, grinding tiles, and other ad-hoc activities.
- Assist with routine and preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
- Assist with fixing air and water leaks and replacing bearings.
- Help with inspections and repairs to key machinery including silos, extruders, dryers, Nerak elevators, and coating machinery.
Hygiene, Housekeeping & Safety (OHS)
- Strictly adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and Food Safety (FSSC 22000) standards.
- Identify, report, and help mitigate health and safety hazards promptly.
- Maintain excellent personal hygiene standards.
- Keep the workshop and tools clean, organised, and compliant using clean-as-you-go principles.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4).
- 1–2 years’ experience in a maintenance or similar hands-on mechanical/technical role.
- Good manual dexterity and the ability to operate various tools and machinery.
Advantageous:
- A valid Driver’s Licence (Code B) will be a strong advantage.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
The successful candidate will have:
- Knowledge of: Painting techniques; maintenance tools/materials; production machinery (silos, hammermills, extruders, etc.); and safe working procedures.
- Skills: Clear communication; practical problem-solving; accuracy and attention to detail.
