Job Purpose
To carry out a wide range of farm practices and manual tasks as directed by farm management and researchers. The Farm Assistant is responsible for the proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment, while strictly adhering to all health and safety procedures in a dynamic farming environment.
Key Responsibilities
Core Farm Duties
- Carry out all farm practices as directed by Farm Management and/or Researchers.
- Perform a variety of manual tasks as assigned by Supervisors.
- Use, maintain, and care for all tools and equipment made available for farm operations.
Compliance & Safety
- Strictly observe all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) instructions, including the use of appropriate protective clothing at all times.
- Apply a good understanding of health and safety procedures to daily work.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 10 certificate.
- 2 years of experience and/or exposure to a fruit farming environment (or similar).
- Understanding of basic agricultural practices.
- Basic knowledge of the manual operation of farm equipment and machinery.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work under adverse weather conditions.
Advantageous:
- Experience in the construction industry (plumbing, carpentry, building, etc.) will be a strong added advantage.
