Job Purpose
To perform skilled electrical work, supervise allocated personnel, and ensure the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and installation of the municipality’s underground and overhead electrical reticulation systems, contributing to reliable power supply and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and control allocated personnel, ensuring discipline, safety, and productivity.
- Perform general maintenance, repairs, and new installations on electrical infrastructure.
- Responsible for High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) electrical reticulation.
- Ensure the safety and proper use of equipment and vehicles within the area of responsibility.
- Install new electrical connections for consumers.
- Assist with the maintenance of a consistent electrical supply.
- Perform standby and overtime duties as required.
- Execute any other related Ad Hoc tasks as requested by management.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or N3 qualification.
- Qualified Electrician (Red Seal Trade Test Certificate).
- Valid ORHVS (Overhead Rural High Voltage Systems) and HV Operating Certificate.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Certified to switch up to and including 132 KV and 11 KV.
- Experience in both underground and over-head reticulation systems.
- Five (5) years’ relevant post-qualification experience, preferably within a local government environment.
- Must be physically fit for strenuous work.
- Must be willing to perform standby overtime duties.
Advantageous Qualifications:
- Valid Wireman’s licence.
