Job Purpose
To support customer service at the point of sale by accurately recording transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system, adhering strictly to company policies and procedures to ensure zero tolerance for inaccuracies and elimination of fraud risk.
Minimum Requirements (Essential)
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- A minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier/till operations.
- Computer literacy (MS Office).
- Sound numerical skills.
- Strong command of the English language (written and oral).
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willing and able to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to all Dis-Chem customer service policies, procedures, and 5-star communication principles.
- Process all customer transactions accurately, handling cash, cards, vouchers, and other payment methods.
- Manage cash flow responsibly, ensuring all money is secured in the till and dropped in the safe per SOPs.
- Process loyalty cards (e.g., Discovery, Medihelp, Multiply, eBucks) and authorised returns/exchanges.
- Report customer feedback, complaints, and any suspicious behaviour to management immediately.
- Ensure all line voids, price changes, and till actions are properly approved and signed off by a supervisor.
- Maintain strict security and confidentiality of your till code, password, and daily takings.
- Be aware of current promotions and assist with basic customer queries regarding merchandise.
Competencies & Skills
- Essential: In-depth till operation knowledge, accuracy, attention to detail, strong English proficiency, problem-solving, time management, and accountability.
- Personal Attributes: Presentable, emotionally intelligent, socially aware, trustworthy, and honest.
- Advantageous: Proficiency in a third official language.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must have reliable transport and/or reside in close proximity to the Ballito store.
- Must have clear credit and criminal records.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible retail hours.
