Job Purpose
To provide outstanding customer service at the point of sale by accurately processing all transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system. The cashier is responsible for adhering to strict financial procedures, eliminating fraud risk, and upholding the company’s policies to ensure a flawless checkout experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately transact all customer purchases, processing cash, cards, vouchers, and other payments.
- Adhere strictly to all customer service policies, cash handling SOPs, and security procedures.
- Establish professional relationships with customers and report any complaints or compliments to management.
- Process various loyalty cards (Discovery, Momentum Multiply, eBucks, etc.) and be aware of current promotions.
- Manage cash flow responsibly, ensuring all money is secured in the till and dropped in the safe as per procedure.
- Ensure all price changes, line voids, and returns are properly authorised and documented.
- Maintain the confidentiality of daily takings and immediately report any suspicious activity.
- Be responsible for the security of your unique login code and password.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- A minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier/till operations.
- Computer literate (MS Office) with sound numerical skills.
- Strong command of the English language (written and oral).
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willing and able to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Competencies & Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers.
- High accuracy, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving ability.
- Presentable, trustworthy, honest, and accountable.
- Good time management and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to analyse basic reports.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- South African citizen.
- Clear credit and criminal records.
- Reliable transport and/or reside in close proximity to Jabulani Mall.
- Willingness to work flexible retail hours.
Advantageous:
- Proficiency in a third additional language.
