The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) is recruiting 231 Assistant Agricultural Practitioners on a three-year fixed-term contract across seven provinces. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates and entry-level candidates to contribute to sustainable farming and rural development.
Position Overview
As an Assistant Agricultural Practitioner, you will support farmers, promote sustainable agriculture, and assist in resource management. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about farming, community development, and food security.
Available Provinces: Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North-West, Western Cape.
Salary & Benefits
- Annual Salary: R193,359
- Benefits: 37% in lieu of benefits
- Contract: 3-year fixed term
Key Responsibilities
- Provide agricultural advice to farmers and stakeholders.
- Conduct farm demonstrations on soil, water, and land management.
- Organize farmer training sessions and workshops.
- Assist in farm visits, impact assessments, and data collection.
- Support agricultural projects and food security programs.
- Maintain records and submit monthly/quarterly reports.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of farming practices.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work in rural settings and travel frequently.
- Teamwork and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Agriculture (NQF Level 6 or higher).
- Registration with SACNAP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professionals).
- Valid Code B driver’s license.
- No prior experience required – suitable for graduates.
