Two (2) vacancies exist in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park (Gladstone Section) for General Workers within the Conservation Department, based at the Stables. The successful candidates will report to the Field Ranger Corporal. This is a unique opportunity to work hands-on with horses while contributing to vital conservation efforts in one of South Africa’s most scenic national parks.

Minimum Requirements
- Qualification: Grade 12 certificate (Std 10) or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience working in a conservation-related field or horse riding/stable management.
- Language: Proficiency in English (spoken, read, and written), plus any additional official language.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit (a fitness test will be conducted).
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of small plant operation (chainsaw, brushcutter). Basic firefighting knowledge is required.
- Regulations: Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act).
- Additional Advantage: Basic First Aid certification.
- Willingness: Must be willing to work weekends and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Horse Care: Assist with identifying and reporting horse ailments, vaccinations, feeding, medical care, and grooming. Ensure riding equipment (saddles, bridles) is cleaned and maintained.
- Stable & Grounds Maintenance: Perform general maintenance, upkeep of terrain and gardens, ensure cleanliness of paddocks, and cut grass around the stables and offices.
- Visitor Assistance: Assist stable staff with visitor outrides as needed.
- Conservation Duties: Assist with erecting and maintaining fences, wildfire suppression, conducting prescribed burns, preparing firebreaks, controlling soil erosion and invasive plants.
- Infrastructure: Assist with the maintenance of buildings, hiking trails, and signage.
- Safety: Ensure a high level of OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) practices are applied at all times.
