Job Purpose
To provide technical and advisory support to smallholder farmers and rural communities. The practitioner will assist in implementing agricultural projects, promoting sustainable farming methods, and facilitating community development initiatives to enhance food security and rural livelihoods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of agricultural development and food security projects.
  • Assist with farm visits, land use planning, and basic crop/livestock management advice.
  • Promote sustainable agricultural practices and identify community training needs.
  • Help establish and support community gardens, cooperatives, and farmer associations.
  • Provide advisory support to farmers on business planning and accessing funding opportunities.
  • Gather, record, and analyse agricultural data to inform departmental decisions.
  • Facilitate group discussions and stakeholder engagements within farming communities.

Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications:

  • three-year Diploma in Agriculture (NQF Level 6) or higher qualification.
  • Registration with SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions).
  • valid driver’s licence.
  • Fluency in written and verbal communication.
  • Skills in group facilitation, community mobilisation, and stakeholder engagement.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is required, making this ideal for recent graduates.
